2017 will be LHGK's 9th year hosting courses in the Council Bluffs, IA / Omaha, NE metro area...the first was a Vickers Tactical 1911 Pistolsmith Course back in 2008! The hosting "expedition" was by no means planned and started with a simple request for help from a friend who was trying to a secure the facility for the Pistolsmith Course I was attending. With a little sweet talking I secured a classroom, then a range and lastly, built a few benches for "a-whole-lotta" LAV 1911 building goodness...easy stuff!
Prior to writing this little "blip on your radar" I really had no idea how many courses I had hosted through today, so I added 'em up...November's two courses with Cecil Burch of Immediate Action Combatives were numbers 24 and 25! Breaking it down a little further, since that first one in '08 we've used 4 different classrooms, 3 different ranges and have had somewhere in the neighborhood of 350 students attend those events! WOW!
Alright, onto what's up our sleeve for 2017...staring off the new year strong with Dr. William Aprill and Paul Sharp in January. Followed rapidly by Craig "SouthNarc" Douglas and his Armed Movement In Structures course in February...think HUGE facility and airsoft BB's! Craig's returns again for BACK TO BACK courses in May with a Law Enforcement ONLY version of his Extreme Close Quarters Concepts and then an open enrollment ECQC. Summer rounds out with Larry "LAV" Vickers and his Carbine Operator Course. All of the courses mentioned above are listed under the "Hosted Courses" tab...so, uhhhh, yeah...check 'em out!
Lastly, I want to give a shout out to my friend and mentor Shawn Claussen of Dynamic Shooting Systems for guiding me on this hosting expedition...he has provided countless hours of correspondence and support over the past several years in helping me attempt to figure out what works and what doesn't when it comes to hosting. Shawn is a top notch host himself and leaves no details untouched when coordinating courses. In addition hosting and being a lifelong student with an endless desire to get better, the dude is also a helluva instructor...if you get the chance, let him drop some knowledge on ya!
If you have been through the LHGK "doors" in the past, thanks...it's an honor and privilege to say the least! If you are thinking of heading to the "Tall Corn State" for a course we are hosting, have faith that it will be a positive experience! As always hit me with questions.
Stay safe out there!
